I was going round and round Youtube last weekend (after a dreadful and tiring week at work !!!) only to stumble on this 70s tune which I once heard nearly 2 decades ago.. I must be around 11-12 years old when I first this track called ‘Yellow River’ from a band called Christie, together with another song from Richard Hammond ‘It Never Rains In Souther California’.
It didn’t hit me when I first heard it on YouTube.. Only after a couple of times did I realize… damn, its that song !!! So hear I am, sharing with you yet another oldie favourite of mine !! Enjoy !!
There are 2 videos from the same song. One where the band plays on a boat, floating on river Thames, and another one, a playful one, most probably taken at the country side, with cows ! Sing-a-long !!
So long boy you can take my place, got my papers I’ve got my pay
So pack my bags and I’ll be on my way to yellow river
Put my guns down the war is won
Fill my glass high the time has come
I’m going back to the place that I love yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you’ll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river
Cannon fire lingers in my mind I’m so glad that I’m still alive
And I’ve been gone for such a long time from yellow river
I remember the nights were cool I can still see the water pool
And I remember the girl that I knew from yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you’ll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
Blast from the past, refreshing.. are just a couple of terms to describe how I feel whenever I discover something from the past (be it movie shows, documentaries or songs) which I have heard, watched or knew as a kid. My music preference ties back to what my parents had playing in the car, or at home. Or whatever I happen to dig from their cassette and black disc collection. Imagine retrieving a Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption’ cassette in 1994 (missjewelz was 12 then..)..but still, the past is gold..lotsa gold and treasures waiting to be discovered.
Growing up during where wireless, handphone, internet, Facebook and YouTube weren’t in existence made real sense of the world that I was living then. Time wasn’t wasted on anything virtual.Only the real. Books, cassette players, stickers, and hand held games were sought-after. Time with the family, cousins..Not forgetting Raptor and Prince of Persia. LOL.. Anyways, 🙂 hail to all the 80s babies who are reading this post 🙂 And if you are from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s , just to let you know, I enjoy listening to the music from your time, thanks to YouTube !!
