The Value of Honesty

I stumbled upon this hadith at this link . I couldn’t help but read the hadith over and over. The words are beautiful, and very meaningful. Internalizing was overwhelming and I know I should keep these words close to my heart as possible.

Narrate Abu Umamah (r.a.) Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him said) :

“I guarantee a home in Paradise for a person who gives up arguments and disputes even he is on the truth. And (I (also) guarantee) a home in middle of Paradise for a person who gives up lying (false statements) even while joking. And (I (also) guarantee) a home in the highest part of Paradise for a person who has a high standard of character. “

This hadith was quoted by Abu Dawud, Al Trimidhi, An-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah.

And here’s another from Sahih Bukhari, also on honesty from this link :

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “When
honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour (of Judgment
Day).” He was then asked: “How will honesty be lost?”
The Prophet replied: “When authority is given to those
who do not deserve it.”

Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Hadith 503

*note, the purpose of this post is to share something which I feel is useful for myself, as an individual, and for ALL of you who are reading this. Take the points from the message and try to benefit from it.  I am not perfect myself and I admit, full of flaw. The use and benefit  of the message brought by this hadith (that is honesty) does not occur only on the individual level, but rather  it starts from the individual level . I am not discussing the classification of hadith , of whether these hadith are sahih, daíf or hasan. I am not going to make it complicated for anyone as our level of  knowledge and understanding on the ‘ulum al hadith varies (not that i know much of it). Just stressing on the simplicity of the message from the hadith. 🙂
