Jarang sekali nak dapat tarikh Islamic Hijr calendar sama tarikh bertindih with the Christian Julian/Gregorian calendar.A bit of history I would like to share with you folks;in case you don’t know, or want to know,here goes…
Islamic Calendar
- a.k.a Muslim calendar
- a.k.a Hijr Calendar ; the first year was the year which 1st Hijra occured; Prophet’s Muhammad emigration from Mecca to Medina
- a lunar calendar ; having 12 lunar months
- months ; Muharram,Safar, Rabi’ al awwal, Rabi’ al thani (al akhir),Jumada al awwal, Jumada al thani (al akhir),Rajab, Sha’aban, Ramadhan, Syawwal, Dhu al-Qi’dah, Dhu al-Hijjah
- each numbered year is either ‘H’ or ‘AH’ (anno Hegirae)
Gregorian Calendar
- is a solar calendar; an arithmetical calendar
- the most widely used calendar today
- is the reform of the Julian calendar
- is divided into 12 irregular months ; January, February, March, April,May ,June, July, August, September, October, November, December
- numbered from the traditional Incarnation year of Jesus
- each numbered year labeled A.D. (anno Domini) or C.E. (Christian Era)

* summary : The Christian calendar (Gregorian calendar) is based on the motion of the earth around the sun, while the months have no connection with the motion of the moon.
On the other hand, the Islamic calendar is based on the motion of the moon, while the year has no connection with the motion of the earth around the sun.
