Some facts on the Olympic Torch

1. Also known as Olympic Fire, Olympic Flame, Olympic Sun, Olympic Light

2. First introduced at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam

3.  It has become a tradition to let famous athletes/former athletes to be the last runner in the relay

4. Means of transportations : most of the time the torch is still carried by runners.  Other means : boats, airplanes, horseback, radio signal (in 1976 from Athens to Canada!), native American Canoe,  a camel, Concorde

5. Shortest Olympic Torch Relay (in total length);  775km from Athens, Greece to Montreal Canada via satellite transmission of electronic pulse

6. Longest Olympic Torch (in total length); 137,000km from Olympia,Greece to Beijing,China involving 21880 torchbearers!

7. The KL(Kuala Lumpur) leg will take place on the 21st April 2008. Each torchbearers will run a distance of 250m within a time of 2.5 minutes, making a total distance of 20km covered by 80 torch bearers. It will begin in Merdeka Square, passing Merdeka Stadium, through various places including KL Tower and KLCC.
