12th General Election : The Aftermath+ Insecurity

MM

a) 2003 : I still remember my reaction when the news broke .Mahathir was going to stepdown from his post as prime minister of the country. Imagine my whole life living by the name of Mahathir, seeing his face everyday in the news, and suddenly this guy nak stepdown pulak… Naturally it was all the good and positive things brought by him for the country and for the people, that I saw, that i felt. Remember Wawasan 2020?

  • Challenge 1: To form a nation that stands as one.
  • Challenge 2: To produce a Malaysian community that has freedom, strength, and full of self confidence.
  • Challenge 3: To develop a mature democratic community.
  • Challenge 4: To form a community that has high morale, ethics and religious strength.
  • Challenge 5: To cultivate a community that is matured and tolerant.
  • Challenge 6: To form a progressive science community.
  • Challenge 7: To cultivate a community rich in values and loving culture.
  • Challenge 8: To ensure the formation of a community with a fair economy.
  • Challenge 9: To cultivate a prosperous community.
  • Will we actually live up to to the challenges outlined by the exPM? Or it doesn’t matter anymore since the recent GE brought tsunami of a change in the country’s governing institution and that we have different parties holding on to different states ? or simply because there’s another PM ? hum… Where are we leading to ??

I remember I was kind of scared when Mahathir wanted to stepdown.. what would Malaysia be without Mahathir ?? A mixed feeling of insecurity..takut-takut.. Not that I’m going to die without Mahathir.. but my whole life has been surrounded by Mahathir’s vision, outlook and advancements etc. In a way, I was already ‘attached’ to this outstanding leader. And I am pretty sure most of us felt pretty much the same that time. Will Pak Lah be as good as Mahathir ? Is he a better speaker and ‘tougher’ than Mahathir ? Well, in 2003, lets just say it was a bit too early to say anything.

    b) Fast forward to 2008. the 12th General Election. Simply unexpected eventhough some of us saw it coming. So BN no more enjoys the 2/3rd majority .. causing the leaders to be ‘shaken’ a bit.. humm.. some of the rakyat was ‘shaken’ too. I was one of them. What? After decades under BN and now another party taking over and you feel nothing ? You must be kidding me !

The two instances I’ve shared above is not to pin point or label anyone. Okay ? and I’ve mentioned nothing about who is on who’s side etc. I hate to judge or label people. Label jars. Not people. Reflecting the bigger picture here : We can become so attached with something especially when it has been with us for a pretty long time. other factors ; close proximity, a good and healthy relationship and always getting benefit from each other (some times may not be the case lah), all happy-happy , peaceful.. And when that something becomes detached, taken away from us, we will be in a state of uncertainty ..what’s going to happen next ? will the ‘thing’ you lost be replaced? and if yes, will it be as satisfying and benefitting as the 1st ‘thing’.

Like the Malay proverb, ‘Belum cuba belum tahu’.. lets just see how the next four years go. Thats the same amount of time I took to realize that leaders are shaped and not many are born leaders. The same amount of time I took to really see that Pak Lah was okay, in his way. So let’s give our new representatives and leaders a chance. They can’t help us without our support. We elected them. And it is their duty to ensure that they serve the rakyat and run the government as transparent as possible. We do not want many things to happen backstage. If possible ,nothing ! Make it all on the stage. Center stage. The wind of change has arrived and all of us should take part in ensuring that Malaysia is our target for betterment and not political leaders/party per se. Stop this circus between and within political parties. With the chaos going on at the moment , especially post election, I dare to say, Malaysian politics haven’t mature. And that includes us too! Yes, we do not want revolution nor do we want evolution (can’t wait too long could we!).. so , it has to be a bit of both..in the middle. Memang senang nak cakap right.. senang nak cakap that the parties should unite and stop focusing on their indifferences. They should get down to constructing a better government. Take the good stuff from the previous government and take the flaws as lessons to be learnt. That should be the way. The part yang susah tuh,its up to us how to share and lift the burden. Yang penting, tak nak this country pecah belah .. let us unite ! Malaysia Boleh !! You also boleh !!!

p.s. : you can’t live totally compartmentalizing politics from your life. In a way, sooner or later, it will affect you and me. Bob Marley once said he hates politics, and never thinks ‘politic’. But just look at his songs.. heavily political.. or as he puts it ‘politikal’ .. As long as what you do is good for the people, then it doesn’t matter whether you’re a politicial or not.Just that when you’re officially elected and hold post, then its your responsbility not to misuse that trust and power given to you. And do your job !!!!!!!!

yet another p.s. : the other day I daydreamt of becoming the next Dato’ Seri Azalina ..hihih..
